AI with spontaneous behaviour like animals developed

Scientists are developing artificial intelligence that is able to recreate the spontaneous activities of animals.Researchers at the University of Tokyo in Japan used a neural network a computer program that mimics the brain to try and make robots change their behaviour autonomously, as if it was based on instinctive changes.Basically, our work is about how to design spontaneous behavior switching by exploiting chaotic dynamics, said co-author Kohei Nakajima, an applied mathematician at the university. The system could then reproduce motions similar to these chaotic actions by switching between stereotypical behaviour, such as crawling or rolling. The researchers defined several possible behaviours, and trained the neural network to act on them according to commands. read more...

A dead Soviet satellite and an old rocket booster could collide in space tonight

New York (CNN Business) Space traffic experts are tracking two pieces of orbital garbage that appear to be careening toward each other: A defunct Soviet satellite and a discarded Chinese rocket booster that are expected to nearly miss each other with a slight chance of colliding Thursday evening. No one knows for sure if the objects will collide, and near-misses happen in space all the time. And the rocket booster, part of a Chinese Long March launch vehicle that likely launched in 2009, is about 20 feet long. The predicted close approach on Oct 16 involves a Soviet Parus navigation satellite and a Chinese rocket stage. His data , which shows dozens of potential collisions happening at any given moment, shows that the Soviet satellite and discarded rocket booster are expected to come within 72 meters of each other this evening, with a risk of colliding. read more...
